Disappointing Product(s) #2 | New in from Rimmel

You always read about higher end beauty products here on my blog. There’s more than one reason for that (they’re more satisfying, more beautiful looking, and they’re the one luxury thing I like to invest in), but the ultimate one is because I think they’re better. But since spending a little bit less without loosing on the quality side is almost even better than spending a lot at Sephora, I often try products from more budget friendly brands. Luckily sometimes I find products and brands I like (today I used two amazing eyeshadows from Kiko, for example), but more often I have to say I’m disappointed, and the products I’m going to show you today are just that: some really, really big disappointments.

Rimmel East End Snob Pillow Talk Dupe Scandaleyes Liner 3D Mascara

Rimmel Extra 3D Lash Mascara
When I saw this mascara at just a little bit more than 5€ with a promising looking plastic brush and the claims of a “multi-dimensional look: 3D brush gives volume, defines and lengthens lashes. Suitable for sensitive eyes” I had to take it home to try it. Well, the effect might be good even if not so dramatic and a big spidery ad crispy looking, but the true problem is another: this mascara hurts! The bristles are pretty short even in the fatter central part of the brush, and they’re so hard that you can forget putting on the mascara at the root of the lashes without hurting yourself. I wonder how they tested this on sensitive eyes, as it’s not just the formula that matters, the brush does too!

Rimmel Scaldaleyes Jumbo Liquid Liner
I wanted to try one of these liquid liners with jumbo sized applicators for a while, and this one from Rimmel, with its ultra black shade and claims of 24 hours waterproof wear looked promising. The good thing is that the promise of a “dramatic look in just one stroke with jumbo applicator” are true, and the effect is amazing. The bad thing is that this is the less long lasting liner I’ve ever tried. Waterproof? 24 hours? Well, on my it started to smudge and transfer after an hour, even when I tried to wear it with primer and eyeshadow underneath. Such a shame, because I loved the applicator!

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in #063 East End Snob
I feel really bad for not liking this, since it’s been getting so much love recently! Said to be a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Pencil, I just can’t get on with it. It doesn’t matter if I apply it on bare lips, before or after lipstick, with lip balm underneath or on a primer, this just leaves little crumbles on the lips. Even with the lightest hand and sheerly on the contour of the lips, a flake or two are always there! It’s still wearable, but it’s really annoying nonetheless.

Have you tried any of these products? Do you love them or have you been disappointed like me?

Rimmel Extra 3D Lash Mascara

Rimmel Scandaleyes Jumbo Liquid Liner

Rimmel Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in #063 East End Snob

Li amate o siete rimasti delusi come me?

  1. I really like posts like this, it's easy to forget that no product works for everyone! The jumbo liner looks amazing, what a shame it doesn't last well :(

  3. I've always felt the same about those hard plastic mascara wands! They just hurt to apply! Nice to hear your thoughts, drugstore beauty is always that bit more hit and miss as you can't swatch it first xx

  5. Great post Gyudy! I agree, high-end tends to be better quality.. Although there are a few exceptions, like my Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks by Bourjois, and Gosh lipsticks. :)

  7. Never tried any of these, but honestly, never considered buying anything from Rimmel except their nail polishes (really seldom). Even something on a packaging level doesn't really attract me a lot..

  9. I haven't tried any of these. From rimmel I like the apocalips lip lacquers and the hydra renew lipsticks (in the purple packaging, particularly vintage pink and notting hill nude)

  11. hmmm crumble dry lips aren't anyone's thing so i think you can safely ditch that lip pencil :( i haven't really tried anything from rimmel except a lipstick here or there. i try and find good economical options but like you, i'd rather 'invest' in higher quality.

  12. The only products that I don't spend a lot of money on are mascaras but yet I still spend around £10 on my favourite Bourjois 1 Seconde volume. I'm not a massive fan of Rimmel either, it's a bit teenage for me :)

  13. That mascara wand does look promising, such a shame! It's funny because I tried one like that recently, it was actually painful to apply because if I accidentally brushed too low down my lash line it would feel scratchy! Horrible!

  14. I didn't try any of these, as Rimmel is no longer sold in Germany, but I agree on your point on high-end makeup. Of course I try drugstore products, just because you get the "its that cheap, just throw it in the basket"-feeling, but if you end up with three disappointing products you could as well have invested in one you enjoyed using.

KIKO is pretty good, though, liked everything I tried so far.

  15. I bought the Rimmel liner in the shade Epic. I know lip liners are drying but compared to the others I own, it's just not that great! I think my lips are just too dry for it.

  16. Aww. At least when a more affordable product disappoints, it's not so devastating on the wallet. I've not tried the other two products you mentioned but I have owned East End Snob. Personally, I didn't have the crumbling issue - but every's lips are different (like skin, hehe).

  17. I have not tried any of these but bought the thin version of the eye liner and it tried up super quick so don't think I will be trying the jumbo one either! At least they were drug store products not high end as you would be even more annoyed if that was the case x

  18. I also have been disappointed with some Rimmel products before but I'm surprised to hear that you don't like Eastend Snob. I have it and I don't feel any sort of "crumbles" on my lips. I apply them on top of lip balm and they feel nice and smooth. I wonder if you got a faulty one?! xx
